What's EdNew
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This issue a personal note and request for feedback. As some of
you are no doubt aware several new multi-million dollar backed
web sites have recently been launched riding the wave EdSurf
first rode. With-out the resources to compete, this development
has left me sitting in the sand pondering the future of this
site. Is it worth while to continue? What can EdSurf offer that
they don't and how? Any suggestions or comments on what you like
or don't like about EdSurf would be much appreciated. You can
reach me through the online Connection feedback form on the site
or via email at edsurfer@edsurf.net .
worth sharing...
We have the technology to offer alternative learning experiences
that can be gratifying to the learner and to the teacher AND that
will allow many students easier access to learning environments.
Students investigating online courses or degrees and who get past
the "God! Like, no classes and no teachers? Hey, man, that's for
me!" stance generally are people who
1) anticipate the need for the degree
2) are not within reasonable driving distance to a university
3) work daily
4) evaluate seriously their own abilities to deal with online
learning format
Using this technology will allow them to get the degree and to
involve themselves in a new type of learning community. OF
COURSE online students should receive financial aid. They are
taking courses for credit. They are taking classes that have
been thoughtfully organized by qualified professors. They will
be held to the same requirements as anyone else receiving
financial aid.
Any abuse of this type of learning system will be weeded out as
students quickly find that they must organize time, that they
must respond as cognitively on-line as they do in a classroom.
~Anon
If they are offered through an accredited program and would be
eligible for aid if student were attending in reality, then OF
COURSE aid should be offered if course is provided on-line.
~A.M.
Of course they should. Education is Education, and in today's
technology, On-Line Education will become more attractive for
busy workers who would much prefer coming home from a long day at
work, getting their lesson plan over the net and working on it
from the comfort of their own home, without driving across town
or concerned with making sacrifices between work and education
time constraints.
~R.G.
Online courses are more challenging in some cases then attending
in person. If a person is taking a class and doing well, then
they are entitled to financial aid, no matter where the classroom
is located.
~S.K.
I am a at home mother and have always wanted to continue my
education. Daycare expenses are terrible and finding someone I
trust is even harder. I believe receiving financial aid for
studying online would be a wonderful thing for those who are not
able to attend college.
~L.A.
If a person signs up and can qualify to be a legitimate student
then they like anyone else should receive aid. The U. S.
Government is always stressing education but does little to
provide the opportunities for those that can least afford to go
due to funds or work schedules.
~H.H.
Financial aid should be available to any one who desires to
increase their education whether it be online or at a college,
especially for physically challenge people.
~J
Anyone who puts time into their educations
and the are willing to work online or off
deseverses the benefits of financial aid
~J.C
Only if the institution is accredited by the regional education
governing boards. Otherwise, this aspect of education will loose,
in the eyes of the industry, any sense of integrity.
Why not education is education, learning is learning this is the
future and its to late to try and stop it now, ride the wave.
~D.W.
